Erin Cover by JakeEkiss
Erin Cover

Been having a slow down of art I can post lately, but this one went out to not too terribly long ago. It’s a cover for my friend rustymuse‘s upcoming supernatural suspense novel.

Tried some new stuff on this one, experimenting with more painterly looks. I’m sure I’ll continue over time, this is sort of a “toe in the water” kind of piece (hence that stark outline).

9th Doctor miniseries variant cover by JakeEkiss
9th Doctor miniseries variant cover
What’s this!? A mad man and a blue box!? What?! Yep! I did this variant cover for the upcoming 9th Doctor miniseries from Titan Comics. The cover will be available from More Fun Comics and Games on the square in Denton Texas starting March 18th and I believe there are plans of me doing an in-store signing (more deets on that later). This was a fun piece to tackle, and I’m still sort of agape at the officialness of it (had to get BBC approvals and everything). Good times.
X-Card: Roll the Bones by JakeEkiss
X-Card: Roll the Bones
Another in my series of X-Men team-up move pieces as inspired by therachelandmiles XPlain the X-Men podcastIf you want to see more from this series, click here. If you’d like to purchase the original line-work for this piece, send me an ask (not selling prints of these)

Most of the redesigns I'm doing in these cards I'm not really trying to reinvent the wheel so much as streamline refine or tweak existing outfits. Gambit is one of those characters whose classic costume just flat doesn't make any sense. Did Remy wake up one morning and pick that ensemble out of his closet? Did he ask somebody with the 't'ieves" guild to make it for him? Did they laugh at him for it? Don't get me wrong, I kind of love his original design. It has the balls to be completely insane and makes no apologies. I can dig that. Here I was tryign to tone it down just a bit. Try to keep some of the shapes and a lot of the color (because the pink/blue/black combo *is* a daring and stylish fashion choice). Maybe this is Remy's clubbing outfit. Maybe this is his "I'm stylin' but I don't want to overdress" outfit. Who knows?

As for Marrow, I dunno. I'd make another five or six runs at her if I had the spare time. There's a way to make that lady look rad, I know there is, I just haven't quite hit the sweet spot yet. I do think taking out the green from her usual outfit was the right choice. Maybe replace it with orange next time? I don't know. I'll crack that nut some other day.

Oh hey, and sentinels in this card! Woo-hoo Sentinels. Killer robots are great. Since we're about  a third of the way through the pieces I have planned for this series I think soon I'm going to start seeding in classics. That's right, you're getting a Fast Ball Special (with not one, not two, but three variantions as well)
Just a quick note that my new webcomic Centuries of Dust is still updating and ongoing. We're up to page 13 now. Go check it out when you get a moment!

thank you for favoriting a piece from my Kickstarter!

It’s an 300+ page art book about a shapeshifter convict and a bankrupt princess unraveling the link between magic and science. I’ve been working on it for five years and now the project is ending in a few days!  I’m really grateful for everyone’s contributions and support like your faves (especially people who've been following since the start of the project!)! So thank you! :D (Big Grin)
